Statement:
THE UNITED WAY OF
BROWN COUNTY MARCIA HERREN MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP SEEKS TO RECOGNIZE TWO
GRADUATING BROWN COUNTY HIGH SCHOOL SENIORS WHO’S SERVICE MAKES A
POSITIVE IMPACT IN BROWN COUNTY AND THAT EXEMPLIFY THE COMMUNITY SERVICE
LEGACY OF MARCIA HERREN.

MARCIA HERREN MEMORIAL
NOMINATION FORM
General Information:
Two (2) $500 scholarships awarded
annually
Brown County High School Seniors who
will be attending college or any other post-secondary learning
institution. Qualifications based upon service actions completed by the
student. These scholarships are in honor of Marcia Herren.
Nomination Process:

Scholarship will be given
public notification via Democrat Message and High School Guidance
counselor on April 1 of each year.
·
Individuals, other than
the potential recipient, will submit a nomination form no later than
April 30 of each year. Teachers at Brown County High School, local
ministers, and other service organizations will receive a letter stating
the availability of the scholarship.
·
United Way Scholarship
Committee will review nominations and submit four (4) completed
applications that best meet qualifications to United Way Board
·
Winners will be announced
at the BCHS graduation ceremony.
Qualifications:
·
Brown County Resident
·
Brown County High School
graduating senior
·
Nomination from community
member other than “family member”. Family member includes:
grandparents, parents, brothers, sisters, and aunts / uncles.
·
Service activity is any
action that is done voluntarily for the good of another member of the
community or an organization that serves members of the community.
·
Service activity may not
be done for wage
·
Service activity may not
be part of required activity to obtain a particular recognition for some
other organization. This would include confirmation service hours,
Eagle Scout, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, etc.
·
Service activity may be
facilitated through another organization such as a church, school
organization, or community organization
·
Service activity does not
have to be tangible nor a project that has physical representation, it
may be an intangible action.
·
Service activity must have
someone to verify the action, preferably someone in addition to the
nominator.
·
May not be nominated by /
nor immediate family member of current United Way Board Member
·
Extended family members of
United Way Board Members may be nominated, but United Way Member must
abstain from voting
United Way Board and Committee Exercise Rights:
·
Review and Verify all
information presented on the nomination
·
Select and award
scholarship at United Way of Brown County’s discretion
·
Ask nominators for
references
·
Conduct Personal
Interviews with any nominated individuals
Selection of Recipients:
·
Two (2) recipients will be
chosen
·
Recipients that have the
most impact and evidence of their service will be awarded the
scholarships
·
Selection of the two (2)
recipients will be made by the United Way Board, by voting from the 4
candidates recommended by the Scholarship selection committee.
·
Voting will be to select
whom the winners are by each board member voting for two candidates and
all votes tabulated. The two with the most votes are the recipients
·
Board Members are not
allowed to indicate nor discuss with anyone outside of the United Way
Board the status nor selection of the recipients
